DontStopThePop celebrates Girlbands!

In the next coming weeks Don'tStopthePop has decided to don the boob tube, hoop earings and will point at objects like my life depended on it for its time to recognise the often maligned feature of music world: the girlband. This is not totally original for a blog but since you can't move for boybands and as that aforementioned site has sadly stopped DontStopthePop says "Hi-Si-Ja!-Hold Tight!".

Along the way we'll bounce around the globe covering over 60, yes 60!, groups which sold millions and some that sold nothing, those who've gone down in history and others who saw history go down on them. Some of the stuff is unreleased and rare while others are just plane classic and needs another airing. Most of the bands come from the decades of the 90's and 00's but there might be a slip into the 80's. Before we set off, don't expect any Bananarama, Sugababes, Girls Aloud or Supremes...for I think their histories are pretty much part of the furniture and it would be ridiculous if we repeated those broken records once more.

As such, some of the bands will not, shock, be singing in English but its always good to widen ones linguistic talents. Consider it homework in the interests of international relations! So as Eternal say "AAAAAAAAAR DO YA DO YA Do ya feel the power of WOMAN??!".......

Yay! I'm throwing out requests for The Flirts, Expose, Boy Krazy and All Saints (I don't think AS are deemed too "part of the furniture" are they?)...

ooo i hope to discover lots of new girl groups that have probably been dropped. I think i have the Boy Krazy album somewhere. Young Divas are my new guilty pleasure...

Looking forward to it! And thank you for including non-English speaking bands, I love music no matter which language it's being sung in.

No to Vanilla/Expose/All Saints(at the moment anyway)

However only two of those bands above will feature in the first batch of girlbands. :)
