Just wait for the chorus...
Summer is here! And Opa Opa is the perfect track to pull you to the beach volleyball, sand dunes and salt water. Its so summery it literally smells of sunscreen. This song will make you whiggle ya bum and waive ya hands. Lyrically its all in English but its by a Greek queen of pop music: the legend that is Despina Vandi.
So who is Despina Vandi...Well if Anna Vissi is the Madonna of Greek music, Despina is the Kylie which makes Helena Paparizou the Greek Britney. Which is all good! Like Kylie, who is big in a country she wasnt born in, Despina Vandi(which rimes with candy...) is actually GERMAN! From Dusseldorf actually. Recalling Helena P, Opa Opa sounds like a hyped up version of her Eurovision win last year. Opa Opa came out first. We say nothing more...
Moreover Despina has studied psychology and philosophy at the University of Thessaloniki. No false intellect impressions-looks at Madonna-for this diva.
In 2003 she embarked on an international career, something Greek performers have had little success in accomplishing. Her first three international singles, Gia (2003), Opa Opa (2004) and Come Along Now (2005) entered the charts around the world, something that had not been achieved for decades by a Greek artist. Her first internationally-distributed albums are named after the songs Gia and Come Along Now.
Enjoy!

But "Opa Opa" is a cover of song that Elena's old group Antique also performed before Despina's version. It's the circle of pop life.
I dont think Steve knew that for i'm the big Greek music fan... I love Antique's version however i prefer Despina's female vocals.
Also Despina's is in english and far more summery which is why Steve posted it last night.
But it DOES illustrate the strange circle of pop life!
Btw, I have MANY versions of this song all in different languages. The antique version had a really weird video where a man stole Elena's love box.
ya know ihave to say this song is awesome
First of all Opa Opa is a song from a Greek singer called Georgios Alkaios and the rest of them are covers. Second, Despina Vandi is Greek she was just born in Germany (she doesn't even speak German) both of her parents are Greek!
ALL WRONG !!!
OPA OPA WAS FIRST SUNG BY NOTIS SFAKIANAKIS !
THEN IT WAS ANTIQUE AND FINALLY THAT THING CALLED DESPINA WHO IS DESPERATELY GASPING FOR BREATH WHile SINGING ....
SHERE LACK OF TALENT !!!
