THAT FIRE...IT IS STILL CLEARLY BURNING

This anthem just won't die will it? Originally written by the boys of Ghost (see below), Mikkel Sigvardt and one Robyn Carlsson (video here), the track was a big Swedish hit for her back in 2002. It was later covered by Beverley Knight (video here) and now has been given the dance treatment by Amanda Wilson and The Outsiders. I just wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the piece of yummy pop. Roughly six years old now Keep This Fire Burning is a part of Robyn's setlists despite the fact she never released the song the country she happens to be in. It was also Beverley Knights biggest airplay hit in the UK which perhaps goes in someway to explain how and why Ms.Carlsson includes the song in her international performances (see Robyn perform it here in France for example). Ever since, Ms.Knight has been unable to top the commercial as well as critical success she had with Fire. Come 2008, the dance version with Amanda Wilson on vocals is doing rather well in the clubs especially thanks to The Freemasons remixes. (hear it here).

However, perhaps the most interesting incarnation of the song was performed by a vocalist from Sweden who goes by the name of Sanne. She has been performing the track with Ghost, the original writers of the song, at showcases held in New York City earlier this year (see it here). It is fascinating as a pop fan to hear and watch writers of songs reclaim their songs and un-thread them. Now, one hopes that Ghost and Sanne will record their version and add it as a bonus track or a b-side. I think it might take the song either full circle or to another level. Or both! Which could be a tad exciting.
