Sometimes singers are just before their time. Aneela was before her time. She first appeared on DSTP 4 years ago when she was launching her poptastic Jaande in her native Denmark. She's had huge hits in parts of Europe namely Denmark, a hit or two in Sweden and of course sold buckets in territories like India and Pakistan. She of course has had global hits as part of ToyBox (the ultrapop rivals to Aqua-also from Denmark). As a solo artist, she achieved sucess with Arash (from Sweden) and of course was in Bombay Dreams. Now, her solo work was simply before its time. Slightly before M.I.A really took off and when Slumdog Millionaire with that Pussycat Doll remix was just a distant dream in the spec of tomorrow. Aneela was bringing it all together long before that. And sadly, it kinda went unnoticed. The album is probably one the catchiest albums to come out of Scandanavia in yonks. For sure, its not schlager. For sure its not anything like my beloved Robyn or uber cool hipster synth pop that Sweden is becoming ever famous for but its the kind of exuberant pop that has me wrapping myself with my quilts and dancing like a lunatic. I dont care what the neighbours might think when I turn Aneela on (my neighbour is actually a new burlesque dance studio so...). Sidetracked. You can get this kind of music wrong. Every song on "Mahi" is an bottom whiggler. Aneela is relentless. She refuses to let you pause for breath. This I love. To bits. Judge for yourself:

Trust you! On the day when the rest of blogworld goes on about the Kylie sing....you do this. A Danish singer who sings in Pakistani and Hindu. With Persian and Turkish elements. She is really diff. Well done on posting this. I am gonna dig out Aneela's album now. Thanks.
Can I say, Arash is a legend here in Sweden. I really like his music. He makes it very different. Arash produces this girl didnt he? Aneela is like on the reworked debut album. She did all the vocals on Temptation that were not in English? Right.

Fred, i did do a little post on Kylie just below this aneela one...but thanks for the compliment (i think its a compliment). She is very different. But I think this might have been the reason why she didnt cross-over into the mainstream. There wasn't enough english in her music. Dont think she's on Temptation. That's just Arash/Rebecca.
But she did end up on a lot of their collabs. I think shes doing another album. Soon.
Lance, yeah...the Kylie's Bollywood song might of worked a lot better with Arash having a go at it...but perhaps they wanted to keep it in house.

I did some digging after being bowed over by that youtube track and you she has covered Snow's Informer. Trash legend ALERT! ALERT!
