The Girl And The Robot

The Girl And The Robot are a brilliant Swedish outfit who hail from Tyskland. As the name of the band suggests they're draped in beautiful interwoven electronic strands of musical fibre. They've just released the first album and I can't get enough of it. Located somewhere in-betweeen Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Visage, Robyn and Girls Aloud , The Girl And The Robot provide sounds which are not just merely electronic but also ethereal and bewitching. Indeed, doing electro music often means the music ends up sterile and cold. The voice at the heart of the song emerges as soulless. That is what makes Lady GaGa so successful I suppose. The Girl And The Robot however manage that hard balancing act within their given genre of providing soft vocals conveying that tender climax within their love stories through that all important ambiance of synthpop which has begun to dominate the world of pop at the moment. Very much recommended (Myspace).

Neither do i. But i'll try and explain it:

I dont quite get the gaga. But i do see the attraction. She is a spectacle. An unusual spectacle. Everyone of my friends adores her. But i dont see it myself.

I've tried many a time to access her and try and get to grips with the amazing world she exposes but i am confronted with the fact there's just so little soul in her voice.

Compare her to similar artists of the same vein: Robyn for instance. There's just so much fun and soul in her electronica. This is why i feel more connected to Robyn (or The Girl and the robot for instance) than Lady GaGa. Its just my little thing i harbour. Its of no critique of Lady GaGa herself.

I like. I may have gotten the advance copy of the album and it's mostly stunning with the odd miss...
