The album is amazing. It mixes modern pop, hip hop, and electronic sounds with traditional Chinese instrumentation to explore the city of Shanghai and its history. This is truly an album that is one of a kind. I don't think I've heard another like it. The album is structured like a book, with each song relating a different chapter in the history of the city of Shanghai. If you like Alexis Strum, Kylie, Robyn, Kylie Minogue, Siobhan Donaghy, SIA, Emily Rossum and Timbaland you'll love The Shanghai Restoration Project.
Produced by Dave Liang, it builds upon his signature hip-hop and electronica blend by bringing in new influences ranging from country to rap to choral music, woven together by traditional Chinese instruments. It takes you to a city and time that I personally have never been to and for this reason alone it requires special attention.
