FINALLY, THE AMAZING ARRIVAL OF RED BLOODED WOMEN

Early last year DSTP talked about the trio girlband Red Blooded Women and tomorrow they are about to come of age and reveal all on their myspace player. Dontstopthepop was luckily enough to get a early preview of their new material & is in bit of a haze of adoration for the band. They are good. Really really good. I'm getting all those goosebumps I got when I first heard With Every Heartbeat and Can't Get You Out Of My Head. As such just I had to write something about them today. I think they are going to be absolutely huge. But why? Let me break it down....

While sharing the same name of the Kylie song they sound nothing like the Body Language hit single and have produced a sound more akin to something I would describe as "KylieFever"-meets-Linda Bengtzing-meets Ninja-meets ABBA-meets the Eurythmics. Which would actually a rather brilliant village meeting if you think about it. Sadly I doubt thats going to happen so its great to hear Red Blooded Women taking the bull by the horns and reving it up to a heightened plateau that makes me most excited about the bubbling pop scene in the UK...So to the songs!

You Made Your Bed

This is a masterpiece of epic proportions. E.P.I.C. Dark and sublime. You Made Your Bed makes Moroder, Kraftwerk and Daft Punk sound like baby-boys being pushed in the buggies while RBW soar in supersonic electric pink turbo jets in the sky above. You Made Your Bed recoils in a murky, and yet very sexual, celebration of Yazoo, Fisherpsooner, Erasure, Giorgio Moroder, Basement Jazz and of course New Order. Different, unusual and unchallengeable: it is amazing. With the beginning drum-roll underpinning the affair, you find yourself captured by its addictive baseliness and electronic pow-wows with the climax at the end as a manumission of glorious proportions.

Synthesizer

One word. Amazing. This borrows the best of the 1980's as the title suggests. It starts off like the spunky twin sister to Rob Palmer's Addicted To Love but this isn't to say its similar to the multitude of pop songs of the 00's that have reappropriated the 80's like a thief in the night. Synthesizer peruses the decade of shoulder-pads and courses into 2009 leaving 2008 on its knees. It truly is an anthem of the proportions of Prince when he was rather good and Sheena when she was rocking on about her Sugar Walls. Includes the wonderfully dirty lyric "your the bruise I cannot hide, you punish me inside, your the devil and I let you take over my soul for tonight" which to me utterly brings a new light to Goethe's Faust. Kylie would have loved to have this track on X...

Colour Me Dirty

Now we do go back. Colour Me Dirty includes a very very big electronic sample but I won't give it away this evening. This is a clear single. It will make you move robotically while you listen to it regardless whether your at home or waiting for the bus to come. The girls show off the vocals on this song proving they are not just about dreamy baselines and blippy electronic poppies but instead brilliant harmonies. If you loved the brilliant Pussycat Doll moment from their debut Hot Stuff (I want You Back) this will totally arouse your aural organs.

Teardrops

The Ballad. The slowie. As such, it sounds like something else thats on the tip of my tongue. For the moment I'll say it reminds me of Dannii's tragically shelved ballad It Won't Work Out.

Other stuff....

I can't really go into details about other material the girls are working on the moment. However, I've leaned my ear to some the w.i.p stuff and these unmentioned songs are absolutely amazing. If you miss Sugababes of the type that gave us Overloaded, Soul Sound, Round Round, Hole in The Head and Whatever Makes You Happy you'll adore Red Blooded Women. In fact come to think about it, I don't even think they should be compared to the Sugababes. They are actually lot better than *that* other British girlband trio. Chastise me for even putting the two on the same table.....

If you like your pop spiked-up with electronic baselines layered down with brilliant lyrics and some great vocals you'll adore this band. They've raised the bar for girlgroups, nay pop bands in general and for this they deserve everything they get. I take great pleasure in not only knowing about this group ages ago but 'cause of the fact that they set up their own label. They are truly in charge. 2008 has never looked so rosy for pop!

Tomorrow some of these songs should be on their myspace (fingers crossed!) Which you can check out here. I expect big things out of this group & can't wait to see them live!

Yum!
